Ensenada Shore Excursions

El Malecon doorstep attraction (easy walk or less than 5mile-8km taxi/bus ride from port) El Malecon The Malecon is the waterfront pathway that runs northwestwards from the cruise port. The walk passes by the giant Mexican flag visible from 10 miles or so out to sea, continues on to the Plaza Marina and finally finishes at the busy fish market. Here there are several outdoor stalls selling Ensenada’s favorite dishes fish tacos and cocteles (seafood cocktails).

Avenida Lopez Mateos doorstep attraction (easy walk or less than 5mile-8km taxi/bus ride from port) Avenida Lopez Mateos A short two-block walk inland takes you to Avenida Lopez Mateos, the main tourist shopping area in Ensenada. There’s lots on sales, from pottery, Taxco silver jewelry, woven blankets, and hats to the more regular duty-free items liquor and perfume.

Hussong’s Cantina doorstep attraction (easy walk or less than 5mile-8km taxi/bus ride from port) Hussong’s Cantina Hussong’s Cantina is famously known as the birthplace of the Margarita. It was founded in 1886 by Johan Hussong, a German Immigrant. Originally the cantina was located across the street (the place now occupied by the rowdy Papas and Beer), but moved in 1892 to its current position. In 1941, bartender Don Carlos Orozco formulated a new drink for the birthday party of Margarita Henkel, daughter of the German Ambassador to Mexico. So was born the famous cocktail! Today the cantina keeps its traditional feel, with much remaining of the original décor. To reach the cantina, continue on northwards for a couple of minutes from Avenida Lopez Mateos.

La Bufadora La Bufadora Be prepared for a soaking if you stand too close to the spectacular La Bufadora blowhole – named after the steam which streams from a buffalo’s nostril before he charges! The scenery in the area is wonderful as well, with a magnificent coastline overlooking the Pacific ocean. There’s a convenient café/bar above the blowhole with great views to enjoy whilst sipping your drink. But numerous touristy souvenir stalls also await. Situated on the Banda premonitory, about 10 miles south of Ensenada.

Mexico's Wine Country Mexico's Wine Country Ensenada is near the center of Mexico’s wine country - eight wineries in the Baja’s ‘Bordeaux Belt’ produce the majority of Mexico’s wines. The vineyards nestle in beautiful valleys, surrounded by steep hillsides. Several tours are available from the cruise port, and all of course offer the chance to taste and buy the wine.
