Bergen Shore Excursions

Bryggen doorstep attraction (easy walk or less than 5mile-8km taxi/bus ride from port) Bryggen The harbor front area of Bryggen is famous for its character houses with their brightly painted fronts. These are born from a building tradition which stretches back to the middle ages, when the Hanseatic League founded the port. Today they are home to an attractive variety of shops, cafes and bars.

Fish Market doorstep attraction (easy walk or less than 5mile-8km taxi/bus ride from port) Fish Market Just past Bryggen you’ll find the bustling Bergen Fish Market where stalls sell huge quantities of fish, fruit, vegetables, flowers and local souvenirs. Don’t miss the opportunity to try ‘just-off-the-boat’ oysters or shrimp, or perhaps a delicious fish-filled roll.

Hanseatic Museum doorstep attraction (easy walk or less than 5mile-8km taxi/bus ride from port) Hanseatic Museum The fascinating Hanseatic Museum illustrates the medieval lifestyle of the German merchants of the Hanseatic League. They were expert traders, specializing in fish and grain, and ran a hugely successful operation from the port. The Museum is situated just next to the Fish Market.

Floibanen Funicular doorstep attraction (easy walk or less than 5mile-8km taxi/bus ride from port) Floibanen Funicular The Floibanen Funicular whisks you straight from the city to the summit of Mont Fløien (1050ft hgih). The top affords magnificent views over the lovely bay of Bergen and, in the distance, the magnificent Norwegian fjords. There’s a food stall and souvenir shop next to the view point. The fit will enjoy following one of the many easy trails that lead off from the summit, zig-zagging through the enchanting hillside woods. The bottom station for the Funicular is 200yds inland from the Fish Market.

Troldhaugen (Edward Grieg Museum) Troldhaugen (Edward Grieg Museum) Classical music fans will love Troldhaugen, Edvard Grieg’s house and, in the garden, his clapboard composing hut. Much of the interior is original, and the composer’s Steinway piano still stands in the drawing room. Troldhaugen is located 6 miles (10km) south of Bergen, and is a popular shore excursion trip.
