The cargo vessel SS American Victory served all through World War 2, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. It has now been restored by volunteers into a working museum. Walk up the gang plank and see the whole ship including weaponry, the engine room, the bridge, cargo equipment and food hall. The SS American Victory is berthed by the Florida Aquarium.
Tampa Riverwalk
Experience the best-known sights of the city and views across the Garrison channel by following the new Tampa Riverwalk. As the walk meanders along the riverside it visits many sites including The Florida Aquarium, American Victory Ship, Cruise Ship Terminal 2, Channelside Bay Plaza, Cotanchobee Park, Teco Line Streetcar, MacDill Park, Glazier's Children’s Museum and the Tampa Museum of Art.
Henry B Plant Museum
Henry B Plant commissioned the magnificent Tampa Bay hotel as a destination resort for tourists to Tampa. It’s sumptuously constructed in the style of a Arabian palace, with finishing flourishes of Victorian architecture. Today the hotel building is occupied by the University of Tampa, but it is also home to the well worthwhile Henry B Plant Museum, which details the life of the famous magnate.
Ybor City State Museum
With its roots in Cuba Ybor City is one of two National Historic Landmark Districts in Florida. Ybor City’s iron balconies, narrow alleys and red-brick houses give a glimpse into its 19th century charm. A visit to the Ybor City State Museum adds further insights into the area's rich history. The old Teco streetcar stops close by the cruise port and can take you to the museum.
