Le Petit Train
Le Petit Train offers a very convenient guided tour to the main highlights of Noumea. See the lovely Place des Cocotiers in the city centre, the historic houses in Faubourg Blanchot, the magnificent view form Ouen Toro Lookout point, and the beautiful Baie de Anse Vata and Baie des Citrons beaches. The trolley train runs from the cruise terminal.
Jean-Marie Tjibaou Cultural Centre
The stunning Jean-Marie Tjibaou Cultural Centre celebrates the culture of the Kanak, the indigenous people of the island. The center features 10 cases (wooden pavilions) modeled after the traditional ‘Great Huts’ of the Kanak chiefs. The cases contain a variety of exhibitions showcasing the art and craft of the Kanaks. The centre can be reached by public transport on the blue bus line which departs from the main bus terminal on the Avenue de La Victoire. Alternatively the Shuttle Explorer HOHO bus stops at the center (as well as other tourist attractions).
Zoological and Forest Park (Parc Zoologique et Forestier)
Set in 36 acres the Zoological and Forest Park contains a whole variety of unique New Caledonia flora and fauna. See the rare Cagou bird, the emblem of New Caledonia. Other animals at the park include Caledonian parakeets, the very intelligent Caledonian crow, and the New Caledonia blossom bat, the only mammal native to the island. The park is situated a mile north west of the city centre, and can be conveniently reached on the Shuttle Explorer bus.
Aquarium Of Lagoons (Aquarium Des Lagons)
The unassuming Aquarium Of Lagoons is home to many amazing and spectacular creatures. The aquarium is split into a number of zones, including mangroves, coastal, lagoon, deep sea, open sea, and fluorescent fish. Each offers an interesting and sometimes surprising glimpse into the marine world. The Aquarium is located between Baie Des Citrons and Baie de Anse Vita, and can be reached on the green line bus from Place Des Cocotiers.
Anse Vata Beach
A short distance to the south of the city centre, lies the very picturesque Anse Vata beach. You’ll find all the ingredients of the perfect beach - swaying palm trees, fine white sands, aquamarine seas and convenient facilities like snack concessions, restrooms and showers. The southern route of the green bus line from Place Des Cocotiers goes to Anse Vata.
