The Greek port of Piraeus at evening time. Athens is 10km away, an easy 20 minute journey by metro railway.

The Parthenon

The major sight in Athens is the Acropolis, a 500 ft hight rock outcrop in the center of the city topped with a series of temples that were erected in around 400BC, during the Classical Age of Greece. The largest temple is named the Parthenon. These awe-inspiring buildings are famous across the world.

Plaka

Near the Acropolis is Plaka. This pretty area is a maze of of pedestrianized streets, lined with tourist shops, jewelry stores, taverns and pavement restaurants.

Roman Forum

The Roman Forum can be found at the west side of Plaka. Here you'll find the interesting Tower of the Winds, an eight sided tower with a different wind deity mounted on each side (joint ticket with Acropolis).

Syntagma Square

See the soldiers dressed in their distinctive skirt with white tights and unique shoes. Try to catch the changing of the guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Lycabettus Hill

You can reach the summit of Lycabettus Hill by foot or by tram. Your journey is rewarded with a stunning view over the city, the Acropolis, and the Aegean sea.
