Bargate, at the old town’s northern entrance, is very well preserved. It makes a good place to start the walk of the city's old walls.

The New Forest The New Forest A beautiful area famous for its cute free-ranging ponies. Visit the visitor center at Lyndhurst for a map detailing some very enjoyable walks. The New Forest starts around 5 miles south west of Southampton.
