Port of Call Belize City, Belize
Cruise Ship at anchor in Belize City bay. Ships anchor upto 5 miles off the coast, due to shallow waters. The tender ride into the dock takes about 20 minutes. Belize is known the world over for its superb scuba diving, and the adventurous passenger can go on a snorkeling trip to catch a glimpse of the amazing sealife on the offshore reefs.
Belize City Shore Excursions
First settled by shipwrecked British sailors as far back as 1683, Belize has become a city busy with people and traffic. Old colonial buildings mingled with modern architecture give Old Belize a unique Caribbean charm. Gervernment House, built in 1812, is often called the finest colonial building in Belize. Also visit the Museum, a prison in former times, to see a history of Belize's culture and traditions. Another idea is the zoo, where you'll be introduced to Belize's colorful and characterful animal inhabitants.
Lamanai Mayan Ruins
Lamanai or 'submerged crocodile' in the Maya language is the name of the third largest, and most interesting, archeological site in Belize. The Lamanai temple complex sits atop the western bluff of the New River Lagoon and is surrounded by pristine rainforest. Climb atop the largest temple for wonderful views of the surrounding hills and jungle.
Snorkeling at Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark/Sting Ray Alley
The Hol Chan Marine Park (Hol Chan is Mayan for Little Channel) is situated a short distance north of Caye Caulker. Even in shallow waters large schoals of jacks, barraccuda, groupers, and snappers can be seen. Some tours pick up directry from your ship, making things very convenient.
After reaching the Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve you'll wak for 30 minutes through the Belize Rain Forest and then through a couple dry caves until you come to the opening of the first cave through which the underground Sibun Caves river flows. Exciting but not for the frail (one passenger once died!).
Bannister Island and Beach
A small private island situated 9 miles South East of Belize city. You'll find a lovely white sand beach, with a good range of facilities, including restarant, bar, restrooms, and beach hire.
