5 Things To Do In Abu Dhabi For Cruisers
Abu Dhabi’s Corniche makes for an enjoyable stroll along the city’s seafront. Two things to notice, a huge Emirates flag atop a 360ft tower, and the preposterous Capital Gate building, with an intended lean of 18°. The Corniche’s eastern end is next to the cruise port.
Corniche Beach which unsurprisingly sits in front of the Corniche, is a great place to relax in the sun. There are lots of facilities including restrooms, lifeguards, playgrounds, and restaurants. There is a small charge for using the beach.
Abu Dhabi Heritage Village
The Abu Dhabi Heritage Village is a reconstruction of a traditional oasis village and gives a enjoyable glimpse into the UAE’s past. The village is situated on a promontory opposite the Corniche, a 5 minute taxi ride away from Corniche beach.
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
The modern Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is impressive not only on account of its huge size but also for its great beauty. In the main prayer hall the columns are faced with marble, inlaid with mother of pearl. The mosque’s courtyard is home to a beautiful marble mosaic floor with a floral motif. Also you’ll see the world’s largest chandelier and largest carpet. The mosque is open every day for visitors (except Friday mornings/afternoons). Journey time (via taxi) from the cruise port is around 45 minutes.
Saadiyat Island Cultural District
The new Saadiyat Island Cultural District is a short taxi ride away from Mina Zayed cruise terminal. Many attractions are scheduled to open during 2017, the Manarat Al Saadiyat visitor center, the Zayed National Museum, the Abu Dhabi Guggenheim, and the the Abu Dhabi Louvre.
